Department of Humanities and Social Science

The Department of Humanities and Social Science at MIE-SPPU Institute of Higher Education (Pune University, Qatar Campus) is committed to the scientific study of human behavior, emotions, and mental processes. Our programs equip students with the knowledge and skills to understand, analyze, and positively influence human behavior in personal, organizational, and social contexts.

With a strong emphasis on research, critical thinking, and applied practice, the department provides a well-rounded learning experience that prepares students for careers in counseling, mental health, organizational psychology, education, and research. In alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030, the program also contributes to promoting well-being and human development in society.

Programs Offered

B.A. (Hons. with Research) in Psychology

Duration : 4 Years

Tuition Fee: QAR 29,000 Per Year

  • In-depth study of cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, abnormal psychology, and counseling.

  • Opportunities to conduct psychological research under faculty supervision.

  • Focus on applied areas such as organizational behavior, mental health, and behavioral sciences.

  • Training in analytical and interpersonal skills essential for careers in psychology and related fields.

Eligibility :

  • Completion of 12th Grade / Higher Secondary School or equivalent (any stream).

  • Minimum 50% aggregate marks (or equivalent GPA).

  • Proficiency in English (students may be required to demonstrate competency through an entrance test or interview, if applicable).

Pathway to Postgraduate Studies

A degree in psychology is often the foundation for advanced specialization. After completing the B.A. (Hons. with Research) in Psychology, students may pursue postgraduate programs such as:

  • M.A./M.Sc. in Psychology (Clinical, Counseling, Organizational, Educational)

  • Master’s in Social Work (MSW) with a focus on mental health or community development

  • MBA in Human Resource Management (for careers in HR and organizational behavior)

  • M.Phil. or Ph.D. in Psychology for those interested in research and academia

This pathway ensures that students are equipped not just for entry-level roles but also for long-term careers in specialized areas of psychology and mental health.

Head of Department

Dr. Pranav Raj

Pranav is a  student of Social Science with specialisation in Economics. His research area primarily involves law and economics, development economics, and issues related to economic growth..   He has worked with Ernst Young for approximately four years. Apart from academics, Pranav loves to travel and is fond of reading crime fictions. Pranav also runs a YouTube channel to share his knowledge on Econometrics and its applications in the field of Economics.

Assistant Professor

Ms. Aastha Shirodker

Ms. Aastha pursued her Master’s degree in Psychology (Clinical Psychology). She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Goa University in 2018. She qualified Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET) in 2020. She is passionate about engaging in the field of Education and Research in the discipline of Psychology. She has a keen interest in psychological testing and experimentation. She is also an ardent nature conservationist.

Assistant Professor

Dr. Sujata Bhau

Dr. Sujata Bhau, Assistant Professor of Psychology, holds a Ph.D. from Guru Nanak Dev University and has qualified both the Jammu and Kashmir State Eligibility Test (JKSET) in 2018 and the National Eligibility Test (NET) for Assistant Professor in Psychology in 2019. Specializing in developmental and counseling psychology, her research interests encompass developmental child and adolescent psychology, health psychology, and social psychology. As a mentor, she has guided postgraduate students in their dissertations and projects.

Research & Teaching Assistant

Ms. Anisha Pal

Anisha Pal is a Teaching and Research Assistant in the Department of Psychology at MIE-Savitribai Phule Pune University, responsible for delivering undergraduate courses and coordinating the Psychology Club, Mind-Q. She holds a Master's and a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in Political Science from the University of Delhi and was selected as a 2025 delegate for the Harvard College Project for Asian and International Relations, highlighting her engagement in political discourse. Prior to academia, Anisha worked as an Event Specialist for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the AFC Asia Cup, focusing on logistics and team coordination. With research experience from child rights and urban safety organizations in India, she is dedicated to connecting academic inquiry with real-world impact. Anisha emphasizes sharp thinking and curiosity in her teaching approach.
